The World’s Most Romantic Destination for Honeymoons

The perfect honeymoon destination can mean different things to different couples, but nothing says romance like the allure of the Eternal City.

And this year, Rome was named the most romantic destination in the world for a getaway, according to a report from Hotels with Tubs that was shared with Travel + Leisure. Awash with romantic restaurants, views, and hotels, Rome earned the company’s highest romantic store in the world.

Overall, the company found more than 1,600 romantic restaurants in the city, a total of 237 honeymoon spots, and the widest variety of romantic hotels around the globe. Take a walk back in time surrounded by thousands of years of history, feast your way through the city with plates like cacio e pepe and gelato, and take in the views from atop the Spanish Steps or the terrace of the Capitoline Hill. For a romantic evening with a philanthropic twist, head to the famed Trevi Fountain, which collects roughly $10,500 each week for charitable causes as a result of symbolic coin tosses (one coin represents a wish to return to Rome while two coins invites more love and romance into your life).

And with many direct flights from the United States, it’s easy and convenient to reach the Italian city.

To come up with its list, Hotels with Tubs used a weighted scoring system, examining the number and quality of romantic restaurants, romantic hotels, couple-friendly attractions, honeymoon spots, scenic parks, and romance-related Instagram hashtags (think: #dinnerdate and #datenight).

“Together, these rankings reveal where couples find the deepest variety of honeymoon-ready moments, helping ensure that their first trip as newly married partners feels personal, meaningful, and truly unforgettable,” Hotels with Tubs said in a statement provided to Travel + Leisure.

Beyond Rome, the town of Ubud in Bali, Indonesia, came in second on the list with 173 honeymoon spots, “highlighting the strong appeal of jungle villas, wellness resorts, and nature-centered retreats for couples seeking peace and intimacy.”

That was followed by Paris, which has always been a favorite among romance seekers. The City of Lights boasts 156 honeymoon spots. The island of Phuket in Thailand and the city of Barcelona rounded out the top five.
